An homage to an old Oskorei song.

lyrics

THE DYING LIGHT

The valley floor lay thick with dead
And beating drums filled hearts with dread
And on the heights, in holy light,
The tears of ancient gods were shed

But beyond the wars, and screams of pain,
Through frigid winters that wax and wane
O'er mossy loam, where demons roam,
The darkness moves through wind and rain

But remember the green grass and mountainsides
Before they all withered away
And sleeping beneath the starlight
But gone is the peace of those days

Now we ride from our homes and our fields
To fight for the lands of the free
But our souls long to stay, and follow on the way,
Our prayers had hoped it would be

We ride against a foe of might
To stop the dying of the light
Though hope is gone, we carry on,
To halt the coming of the night

As the mountains guard their silver and gold
We guard our land and mountainous holds

Stricken were their hearts
As the horns sounded from the hills
And the pagan horsemen thundered
Down towards the lines of war

Through long wars fought, and battles won,
We've never fled, yet now we run
And now we fear, as evil nears,
Our hope is gone, and our song sung

But remember the green grass and mountainsides
Before they all withered away
And sleeping beneath the starlight
But gone is the peace of those days

Now we ride from our homes and our fields
To fight for the lands of the free
But our souls long to stay, and follow on the way,
Our prayers had hoped it would be

But never fear, though evil nears
And in all darkness see the sun.
